Udviklingen af et spil i dag tager generelt længere tid end før i tiden. Dette skyldes at konsoller og computere er blevet langt kraftigere end de var tidligere. Derfor er der af den grund også meget mere at tage hensyn til. Det siger sig selv at det er nemmere at udvikle spil til en Nintendo Entertainment System end til PlayStation 4.
Meddirektøren af Kingdom Hearts III, Tetsuya Nomura, sagde dette i forbindelse med udtalelsen:
Looking at PS4, I thought theyve gone too far. I wish they would just let us off the hook. For the player, having a game thats thoroughly made makes them excited with anticipation, but for a developer, its a hurdle we have to overcome.
The number of things we have to do keeps increasing and if we keep trying to expand as far as it will go, well never be finished. I think were going to end up being faced with the choice of what to keep and what to give up on.
There have been a lot of different consoles in the past, but I feel that this one is the biggest mountain weve had to climb yet, in a good way."
Kingdom Hearts III blev annonceret samtidig med Final Fantasy XV ved E3 I 2013. Begge spil vil komme til PlayStation 4, men det bliver nok ikke foreløbig, da ingen af dem har fået en udgivelsesdato endnu.
